Handmade Sequoia Wood Urn, Ammonite lid ( 290 c.i)

Making beautiful urns is my passion and I am always looking for truely remarkable wood. This urn is made from a unique piece of Sequoia or redwood. The creamy sap wood forms a beautiful contrast with the reddish heart wood. I bought this tree a couple of years ago. After I turned one piece I found out that this wood is hard to turn smoothly. The wood is very brittle so I kept just a few pieces of this wood in my shop to try again in the future. And now I felt the urge to give it one more go. I took out all the soft pieces and emphasize the annual rings. It has a rough look which matches perfectly with the Ammonite I had in stock. And so this piece was created . This urn is meant for someone who perhaps has good memories to the Redwood forests. I finished it with matt acrylic lacquer to emphasize a natural rough look. The ring in the opening and the base of the lid are made of Purper Heart wood.

All the wood I use for my work is reclaimed from near my shop, resulting in a very sustainable piece of art. Please keep it out of direct sunlight, don't place it near a heating source. You can clean it with a damp or dry cloth.
