Handmade Zebra Wood Urn, Mangrove root (70 c.i.)

This cremation urn is turned from Zebra wood. The stripy pattern is characteristic for this type of wood. The colors vary from chocolate brown, bronze to golden yellow. This particular tree had a very large diameter which shows in the almost straight growth rings. The ring in the opening of the urn is made of Ebony wood. The lid is also made of zebra wood. I placed the urn on a rough mangrove root. I see so much beauty in contrasts. If you overview my work you will notice that this is the fingerprint of my work: rough edges versus smooth surfaces. So many contrasts in life are exciting and give me food for thought. Once I heard someone say ‘there is so much life close to death’. It sounds confusing but I have experienced the truth of this. You can feel the beauty of life so intensely when you face death. Experiencing the beauty of nature can be comforting and inspiring for creating more beauty. Every day I feel motivated to contribute to making this beauty of nature more visible.

The urn is finished with high gloss lacquer. Please keep it out of direct sunlight, don’t place it near a heating source. You can clean it with a damp or dry cloth.
